Post Graduate Internship at Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center
Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC), known to be one of the most trusted and oldest 600-bed capacity hospital in the Philippines, had been serving its patients for over 136 years. A private hospital with a well-maintained and expanding Charity Department, rich in experience, knowledge, and skills to provide the best clinical experience for students, residents, fellows, medical practitioners, junior clerks and post graduate interns from different parts of the Philippines and graduates of Chinese General Hospital Colleges.
The hospital is not only proud to provide high quality service to all patients regardless of race, ethnicity, and social status, but also serves as an accredited training institution for medical clerkship (by Commission on Higher Education (CHED), postgraduate internship (by Association of Philippine Medical Colleges APMC), residency training programs in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Clinical and Forensic Pathology, and fellowship programs as well. Further clinical exposure to Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry (in partnership with National Mental Hospital), and Community Medicine (in partnership with Quezon City Health Centers) are in place. There are more training programs soon to be launched. The Hospital is the only training institution in the country that offers Traditional Chinese Medicine in its curriculum, with competent staff to render service and teaching
The Hospital has served as a clinical training grounds for 12-months for more than 2000 postgraduate medical interns from different medical schools all over the country. The Hospital continue to seek its accreditation with the APMC and even increased its postgraduate internship slots to 150 during the Covid19 pandemic period. With the varied patient cases attended to in the Hospital, graduate medical students from top performing universities (University of Santo Tomas, University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center, Far Eastern University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Our Lady of Fatima University, and our very own Chinese General Hospital College of Medicine) start to fill up the internship slots as early as first matching with a lot more waitlisted hoping to get accepted. To add, senior medical students from Nigeria, Kenya, Malaysia, Australia, were also given opportunity to spend one or two months of clinical rotation in various programs in our Institution.
The Hospital continues to strive and provide the many “first and unforgettable” cases the medical interns get to see and handle. There are so many opportunities for a trainee to learn from every bit and piece of medical information that the patient shares, each has their own little stories that will forever be remembered, and most importantly, to learn from.
