The Joint USTH-CGH hepatology training program will be a one (1) year program that includes direct care of patients with liver diseases in the outpatient clinics and in inpatients. The first year of the program will be conducted at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital and Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center where the trainee will be asked to participate in the management of all inpatient hepatology cases, as well as see patients in the outpatient clinics of the hepatology consultants and in the clinical division. The program will also include training in interventional hepatology where the trainee will assist/perform percutaneous procedures such as liver biopsy, pigtail insertion, ethanol injection and microwave ablation.
After completing the one year program, the trainee will have an option to pursue a further six-month extension for interventional hepatology training at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital and Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center or an outside rotation to a partner institution/s abroad will be arranged to further hone the trainee’s skills in interventional hepatology, transplant hepatology, performance and interpretation of hepatic venous pressure gradient, or a specialized area of hepatology research. The program also includes training in hepatology research and trainees are expected to be adept in formulating and writing their own research protocols, and performing statistical analysis and interpretation of their results at the end of their training.
