Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC) honored its physicians on June 11, 2024, at The Manila Hotel during the “Doctors’ Appreciation Night.”

Dr. Samuel Ang, CGHMC Medical Director, welcomed the doctors to the event while Mr. Antonio Tan, Chairman of the Philippine Chinese Charitable Association, Inc. (PCCAI) delivered an inspirational message, praising the silent heroes and highlighting the importance of recognizing the sacrifices and hard work of the physicians for the hospital and the community.

  • Dr. Mary Lee Y Utiao, from the Department of Internal Medicine, for her 52 years of service.
  • Dr. Rita Keh Lee, from the Department of Pediatrics, for her 52 years of service.
  • Dr. Elena Yu Gohu, from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, for her 53 years of service.

  • Dr. Teodoro Pascual Nuguid, from the Department of Surgery, for his 56 years of service.
  • Dr. Emilio Paolini Lorenzo, from the Department of Surgery, for his 56 years of service.
  • Dr. Antonio Ortega Periquet, from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, for his 58 years of service.
  • Dr. Emma Ting Lao, from the Department of Anesthesiology, for her 59 years of service.
  • Dr. Nena Eng Tan, from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, for her 66 years of service.

A significant highlight of the evening was the Lifetime Achievement Award, given to a physician who has made substantial contributions to the institution and the community. This award represents the excellence that CGHMC has been known for over a century. It honors a legacy marked by relentless pursuit of medical excellence, unwavering commitment to ethical practice, and steadfast dedication to serving others. The award was presented to Dr. Dy Bun Yok in recognition of his remarkable contributions to Cardiology. Dr. Jason Letran, Urologic Oncology specialist, delivered a moving tribute to Dr. Dy, detailing his many accomplishments and lifetime contributions to the medical field. The awardees were meticulously selected by the Office of the President, the Office of the Medical Director, and the Doctors’ Appreciation Awards Giving Committee.

Over 400 doctors enjoyed an evening of entertainment provided by their talented colleagues. The CGHMC Euphoria band led by Dr. Rafael Vera Cruz on saxophone, Dr. Judith Navarro on keyboards, Dr. Eduardo Tin Hay on drums, and featured Dr. Joyce Dico Go as the singer. The Dancing Queens, composed of Dr. Veronica Vera Cruz, Dr. Marivic Vera Cruz and Dr. Zeny Malilay delighted the audience with their dance performances. The hosts of the night, Ms. Princess Legaspi and CGHMC’s psychiatrist, Dr. Jerome Go also performed solo song numbers. Raffle prizes were drawn, with several lucky winners taking home valuable items.

Overall, the Doctors’ Appreciation Night was a tremendous success, offering a rare opportunity for doctors to bond and catch up, given their typically busy schedules.

In Mr. Sia’s speech, he highlighted the invaluable lessons learned from the recent health crisis.
