The Department of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics of the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC) recently unveiled its newly upgraded nuclear facility, marking a significant milestone for the hospital.
The inauguration ceremony and ribbon-cutting were led by CGHMC President and CEO Mr. Kelly Sia; Philippine Chinese Charitable Association, Inc. (PCCAI) Chairman of the Board Mr. Antonio Tan; Medical Director Dr. Samuel Ang; Honorary Chairman and Executive Committee Chair Dr. Benito Goyokpin; Vice-Chairman Mr. Alberto Tan Lee; Vice-Chairman Mr. Manuel Co; Department of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics Chairman Dr. Jonas Santiago; and Diagnostic and Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine Section Head Dr. Arlene Ong-Ortiz.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Sia mentioned that this expanded Nuclear Medicine facility now accommodates state-of-the-art equipment and provides a more comfortable area to enhance patient experience. “CGHMC is making significant strides in medical advancements, incorporating cutting-edge technologies and using innovative approaches for different specializations,” he said.

Dr. Samuel Ang credited the support of CGHMC leadership and PCCAI for this milestone in the Nuclear Department, including the acquisition of one of only two SPECT CT 860 machines in the Philippines. “Our hospital remains at the forefront in the treatment of cancer and heart disease, and the Nuclear Department is a vital component in the fight against these diseases,” he said.
In his inspirational message, Chairman Tan encouraged doctors to continue learning and collaborating with other fields and institutions to improve patient outcomes, enhance safety, and drive long-term success. “We are turning a new chapter in nuclear excellence. May this facility serve as a place for groundbreaking cures that will transform lives, drive progress, and create a better future for all,” he added.
The event was attended by key medical professionals, stakeholders, and partners from GE Healthcare, all celebrating the department’s unwavering commitment to medical excellence and innovation. The enhanced facility showcases the department’s newest acquisitions—state-of-the-art technologies such as the Gamma Probe and the SPECT Hybrid System—which elevate the precision and efficacy of diagnostic imaging and surgical localization.
One of the highlights of the facility’s advanced offerings is the integration of Lutetium-177-based therapies—a cutting-edge molecular treatment that harnesses theranostic principles to target specific cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. This therapy is especially promising for patients with neuroendocrine tumors and prostate cancer, offering new hope through evidence-based, personalized care.
“This is just one of the many advanced diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities in our Nuclear Medicine Department that contribute to advanced patient care. The expansion paves the way for accuracy in diagnoses, targeted treatments, and precise medical interventions. What’s more, this opens doors and opportunities for collaboration with other specializations or healthcare institutions, as well as further education and training in this field,” Mr. Sia added.
CGHMC continues to make significant strides in medical advancements, incorporating cutting-edge technologies and innovative approaches across various specializations.

The Department of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics embodies the hospital’s vision of providing world-class nuclear medicine services, integrating technology, expertise, and compassion. With these advancements, CGHMC is changing the landscape of healthcare—offering better solutions in treating diseases, improving patient care, and delivering better outcomes.
