It\u2019s important that we have these questions answered, but more importantly, we need to look only to legitimate sources for answers to these questions we may still have about vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s discuss and answer some of these very important questions about the COVID-19 vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the benefits of getting a COVID-19 vaccine?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>COVID-19 vaccines produce protection against the disease as a result of developing immunity to the SARS-COV-2 virus. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/q-a-detail\/coronavirus-disease-(covid-19)-vaccines\">World Health Organization (WHO)<\/a>, you should still be vaccinated when it is offered to you. The protection somebody would have after being infected varies from person to person. The immunity you would get from being vaccinated after being naturally infected is very strong. Getting the vaccine even after having COVID-19 means you are more likely to have longer protection against the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Should I get the COVID-19 vaccine while infected?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No. You cannot be vaccinated if you are currently sick with COVID-19. You should wait to be vaccinated after you have fully recovered. If you had exposure to COVID-19, you should not seek to be vaccinated until your quarantine is over to avoid spreading the virus to healthcare personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can a COVID-19 vaccine give me COVID-19?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No. This is one of the misconceptions around the vaccines that authorities are fighting against. None of the authorized COVID-19 vaccines from the US contain the live virus that causes COVID-19. This means that the vaccines cannot make you sick with COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likewise, the COVID-19 vaccines won\u2019t cause a positive test result for a PCR or antigen test. Why? Because the tests check for active disease, not the immunity of a person. However, because the COVID-19 vaccine prompts an immune response, it may be possible to test positive in an antibody or serology test that measures COVID-19 immunity in a person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vaccines teach our immune system how to identify and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. This process can cause symptoms such as fever which is normal. These are signs that the body is building protection against the COVID-19 virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, not having symptoms does not mean that that vaccine doesn\u2019t work.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the COVID-19 vaccines side effects?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These side effects are normal signs that your body is building protection. These may affect your daily activities, but these symptoms should be gone in a few days. There are people who didn\u2019t show any side effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The serious side effects that are reported to cause long-term health problems are extremely unlikely after getting the COVID-19 vaccines. Vaccine monitoring has shown that side effects generally happen within six weeks of receiving a dose. Because of this, the FDA required each of the authorized COVID-19 vaccines to be studied for at least 8 weeks after the last dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Some common side effects&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the arm:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Pain<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Swelling<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Redness<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You may feel the following throughout your body:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Tiredness<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Headache<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Muscle Pain<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Chills<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Fever<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Nausea<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Side effects after the second shot may be a bit more intense than what you had on your first shot. This is a normal sign that your body is building protection and should go away in a few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When to contact your doctor:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The redness or tenderness where you have the shot gets worse after 24 hours.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>If the side effects do not seem to go away after a few days.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a severe or allergic reaction after getting your first dose of an mRNA vaccine, you should not get a second dose of any other mRNA vaccine. Vaccines are highly effective in protecting against severe illness. But let\u2019s not forget that the Delta variant is highly infectious and transmissible than the earlier variants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who should not take the COVID-19 vaccine?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>People who have a history of severe allergic reactions to any of the components of the vaccine should not take the COVID-19 vaccine. It is also not recommended for persons younger than 18 years old <strong>pending the results of studies.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can pregnant women take the COVID-19 vaccines?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The vaccines are recommended for 18 years and older, including pregnant women, lactating mothers, or trying to get pregnant now, or might become pregnant in the future.
