The Structural Heart and Endovascular Team of the Heart Institute at\u00a0Chinese General Hospital & Medical Center (CGHMC)<\/strong>\u00a0continues to advance cardiovascular innovation in the Philippines.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In a landmark procedure, the team successfully performed the country\u2019s\u00a0first Inner-Branch Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (iBEVAR)<\/strong>\u00a0for the treatment of a complex\u00a0thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0June 13, 2025<\/strong>, placing CGHMC among advanced vascular centers worldwide capable of performing this highly specialized technology.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The procedure was\u00a0headed by Dr. Jessielyn Sia<\/strong>, together with\u00a0Dr. Timothy Dy<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Dr. Rector Villajuan<\/strong>, successfully completing the endovascular repair of a complex thoracoabdominal aneurysm in a severely diseased aorta. This milestone follows another national first by Dr. Sia, who previously performed the\u00a0first TricValve implantation in the Philippines <\/strong>for severe tricuspid regurgitation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The procedure involved deployment of a\u00a0custom-made E-xtra Design Multi-branch (EDM) stent graft<\/strong>, with meticulous cannulation and sequential stenting of the visceral arteries via the\u00a0left brachial approach<\/strong>, including the\u00a0right renal, left renal, superior mesenteric, and celiac arteries<\/strong>. The\u00a0iliac limbs were subsequently deployed and optimized with post-dilation<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This complex intervention was performed as part of a\u00a0staged repair strategy<\/strong>, with the\u00a0second stage \u2014 Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair (TEVAR)<\/strong>\u00a0completed on\u00a0September 18, 2025<\/strong>\u00a0using the\u00a0Medtronic Valiant system<\/strong>. The staged approach was carefully planned\u00a0to reduce the risk of spinal cord ischemia<\/strong>\u00a0during treatment of the extensive thoracoabdominal aneurysm.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Notably, the successful completion of this complex repair required the\u00a0integration of endovascular technologies from two different device platforms<\/strong>, combining the\u00a0Artivion E-xtra Design Multi-branch (EDM) stent graft<\/strong>\u00a0for visceral branch preservation and the\u00a0Medtronic Valiant thoracic stent graft system<\/strong>\u00a0for the staged thoracic repair\u2014demonstrating the importance of\u00a0cross-platform innovation and collaboration to achieve optimal patient outcomes<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The patient has\u00a0recovered well and demonstrated significant clinical improvement<\/strong>, and is\u00a0currently doing well six months following the procedure<\/strong>, highlighting the potential of advanced endovascular therapies for complex aortic disease.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This achievement was made possible through collaboration with international and industry partners.
