The Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC) Institute of Urology hosted this year’s UROCamp. This year’s topic, “Maximising Minimally-Invasive Surgical Treatment (MIST) for BPH and Urinary Stones,” took place on June 6 and June 7, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UROCamp, established by Karl Storz Endoscopy Asia Marketing Pte Ltd in 2017, is a premier educational platform offering webinars, live surgeries, lectures, and hands-on workshops. The two-day event is dedicated to providing top-notch urological education and training to urologists not only in the Philippines but also in other regions of Southeast Asia and Taiwan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Kelly Sia, President and CEO of CGHMC, in his video message, stated that the institution is committed to adapting and changing with the times, investing in human resources and advanced medical equipment to highlight its continued service to charity patients. Mr. Sia thanked Karl Storz for choosing CGHMC for this year\u2019s UROCamp and expressed hope that all participants from other hospitals and regions would find the venue conducive to learning and that it would prove valuable in their urological practice in the years ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seventy three urologists from across the region joined this year\u2019s UROCamp. The Course Directors were Professor Cho Sung Yong from Seoul National University College of Medicine and Seoul National University Hospital; Professor Lo Ka Lun, Honorary Clinical Associate Professor from The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Professor Lukas Lusuardi, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology at Paracelsus Medical University Hospital, Salzburg, Austria; and Dr. Apolonio Lasala Jr., CGHMC\u2019s Minimally Invasive Urology surgeon.

Dr. Karl Marvin Tan, one of the guest speakers and a Urologist\/Endourologist specializing in Minimally Invasive Urology, talked about the current trends in prostate management. He mentioned that the gold standard operation for any patient is the one that meets the patient\u2019s needs and expectations while being safe. This decision should include a careful consideration of patient factors, but the surgeon\u2019s familiarity and ability to safely perform the selected procedure should also be a factor.

The program included live surgeries that were beamed from the operating room to the auditorium. Aside from the URO expert lectures, live surgeries, and panel discussions, participants also engaged in hands-on sessions that tested their hand dexterity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
