CGHMC Celebrates Nurses’ Week 2025

The National Nurses Week celebration worldwide began on May 6th and ended on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

The Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC) Nursing Services Department (CGHMC NSD) celebrated Nurses Week with the theme, “Caring for Nurses Strengthens Our Economies.”

Every year, Nurses Week is celebrated worldwide to pay tribute to the dedication and hard work of healthcare professionals. The CGHMC recognizes the valuable contributions of nurses and the challenges they face every day. We acknowledge the significant impact nurses make on healthcare and their role in improving patient-centered care and health outcomes.

According to the Assistant Director of NSD, Ms. Luna Serrano, more than 900 nurses at CGHMC participated in this tribute. “Nurses are the heart of healthcare—quiet heroes whose compassion, strength, and dedication save lives every single day,” she said. She also commended Mr. Melvin Arzobal, NSD Head Nurses President and the rest of the officers, alongside with the supervisors and head nurses for their efforts and commitment.

The celebration received strong support from CGHMC President and CEO Mr. Kelly Sia, CGHMC Medical Director Dr. Samuel Ang and Director of Nursing Administration Dr. Patricia Tan. Dr. Juliano Panganiban, Head of Patient Relations Service (PRS), Ms. Ave Grace Valdez, OIC of QMD and Ms. Aubrey Albiar Dayrit, Asst. Professor II of CGHC College of Nursing also participated in judging the winners of Nurses Got Talent.

The week-long activities included:

  • Free BP and CBG checks for all CGHMC employees, followed by a Thanksgiving Mass
  • A seminar on “Blood Transfusion Practices: Ensuring Safety & Quality in Patient Care” by Francis Marie Singson.
  • A nurses quiz championship: “Beyond The Bedside”
  • Thank You Thursday – a Nurse Appreciation Day followed by distribution of free food for all NSD personnel
  • The culmination of the Nurses Week celebration was an exciting showcase of talents in Nurses Got Talent, with Sheryl Bernales from 4C and Spencer Medina from 5B emerging as the winners of the Duet Song Contest. The CODE BEAT CREW took home the victory in the Dance Contest, representing NSD areas such as 5A, 4A, 4B, 4C, 3A, 3B, HD, OR, PACU, DR-Pay, and ER. Nurses from different units and sections joined in the song and dance group competition, making it a memorable event filled with energy and creativity.
The celebration was a heartfelt way to honor the nurses of CGHMC for their dedication, hard work, and compassion. Through fun, educational, and meaningful activities, the CGHMC Nursing Services Department showed its deep appreciation for the nurses who continue to make a difference in the lives of patients every day.
